Bobby Saylors worked for the City of Bowling Green for 13 years as maintenance foreman for the parks and recreation maintenance dept. He enjoyed his job, but always dreamed of working for himself. In the evenings after his day job, Bobby repaired mower engines, weed-eaters, any anything with a small engine, including golf carts. As Bobby worked on more and more of his friend's golf carts his reputation grew. After carrying his letter or resignation in his pocket for two weeks, Bobby finally left his job with the city. With a loan from a friend, a small wheelbarrow full of parts, and three carts in inventory, he started Saylors Golf Carts in 1981.
For the first several years, Bobby did all of the work himself. Business steadily increased and he hired three mechanics, Terry, Kevin, and Rickey, all of whom are still with Saylors Golf Carts today. Bobby's niece Kathy jumped on board in 1984 and serves today as the Office Manager.
In July of 2008, John and Katie Ballance purchased the golf cart business, retaining all of the same employees and leaving prices, values, and goals unchanged. Together, the Saylors Golf Cart team has 104 years of combined golf cart experience.
